Delivery delays for imports from the Far East (as of February 2025) – Update 10.03.2025

In recent weeks, the situation regarding delayed arrivals of ocean-going vessels has significantly deteriorated. Ships are not only arriving with major delays, but are also partially unloading at alternative European seaports.
Containers are then transported to the actual destination ports via feeder vessels – often without any notification of further delays.
These circumstances make reliable planning for the collection of import containers considerably more difficult and increase the administrative workload.

Due to ongoing strikes, there are substantial delays in pick-up and delivery schedules at all terminals, even though ocean-going vessel handling continues to be prioritized.

All seaport terminals report that they are operating at or near full capacity, which reduces overall productivity in container handling.
Loading and unloading processes are therefore taking significantly longer than usual.
The automated “Nextlogic” system in Rotterdam, which coordinates barge and train movements, sometimes postpones loading slots by up to four days.
As a result, deadlines are missed, and unloading at alternative terminals is often not possible due to congestion there as well.

Delivery delays for imports from the Far East (as of February 2025)

Dear Sir or Madam,

The shipping industry is currently undergoing a major transformation, marked by the dissolution of key alliances and the formation of new partnerships.
This restructuring is affecting the entire logistics chain, with the most significant issue being the disruption of regular schedule routing.
The emergence of new alliance structures and reduced capacities on certain trade lanes – especially in the transatlantic sector – are leading to various challenges.
More frequent blank sailings and port omissions may continue to cause additional delays in the coming months.

Furthermore, congestion at ports is intensifying due to a combination of factors including adverse weather conditions, the risk of strikes, and changes in carrier schedules.
In major Asian ports such as Shanghai and Ningbo, numerous vessels are anchored due to a lack of capacity to meet the high demand.
This situation is compounded by labor shortages and high capacity utilization at European ports.

These disruptions are expected to persist for some time and are already affecting orders placed in the last quarter of 2024.
Unfortunately, this development was neither foreseeable nor within our control.

We therefore kindly ask for your understanding that delivery delays may occur for the reasons outlined above.
We will inform you promptly as soon as we receive any updates.

Yours sincerely,
Möller Verbindungselemente GmbH
